NOVICA, in association with National Geographic, searches the world to work directly with the finest artisan designers. Supunee transforms cotton and hemp into a fine fashion accessory. Traditional motifs in red and black encircle the handsome bag, and hemp netting crowns it. Inside, two pockets organize keys and lipstick; beads and coins adorn each side. A comfortable leather shoulder strap finishes the hand-crafted purse. Artisan Info: "Hi, I'm 'Su' ? my nickname. My full name is Supunee Assawasukon. My hometown is along Thailand's border with Myanmar. My parents are farmers, and I have two sisters and two brothers, younger than I am. My youngest sister and I left home to study at university. My major was Mass Communications. I enjoy communicating! It makes me happy. ?After graduation, I went to Singapore to learn languages for a year. I worked for six months, but felt drawn to return home to help my mother in her shop where she sells silk, silver beads and products from Myanmar. In 2000, I left my hometown again, and at first sold products from my hometown. Later, I began creating my own designs, incorporating Myanmar influences. I enjoy my freedom, and the opportunity to be creative. "I make everything with love ? because I love what I do! I enjoy infusing traditional designs with modern style. First, I visualize something beautiful, something that intrigues me. Then I think about the materials in my hand ? cloth, silver, and so on ? and work with them to make my vision reality.
